Merging Technologies is a Swiss-based software company that specializes in providing digital workstation solutions for the professional audio market. They approached Texol’s Launch-Pad team with a requirement to design and manufacture an elegant, robust PC-style chassis for their Pyramix and Vcube products. Working with Texol’s Industrial Design partner (Berg Design Ltd) the Launch Pad team utilised their combined expertise in Product Design, 3-D Cad-Modelling, and Prototyping to take the product from the concept stage all the way through to final manufacture.
Using high-end computer hardware, the unit is used by audio and video editing professionals across the world. The product is now in the production stage with official launch scheduled for early 2005. |

Texol’s relationship with the University St Andrews Photonics Innovation Centre stretches back several years working on a variety of exciting and innovative ideas.
PIC was formed to provide a commercial outlet for ideas originating from the School of Physics and Astronomy within the University. PhotoSynergy is a spin out from PIC developing laser systems. With Texol they are currently developing a portable demonstration model for ‘the rope of light’. This utilises a low powered compact laser to inject light into a side emitting fibre. The applications are limitless from reliable safety lighting on ships and offshore platforms to architectural projects.
This is the kind of partnership Texol’s Launchpad want to seek out and develop, working with spin outs like PhotoSynergy and universities where many of the tomorrow’s products are born.
