Raeburn's house Dingwall
Mr & Mrs Raeburn of Garve Suffered more than most from the midge menace making it almost impossible to work or sit out anywhere in their garden. As soon as the news of a machine that would tackle the fearsome biting menace, the couple contacted their local distributor and very soon, the Texol Midgeater team were heading for Dingwall with a brand new Midgeater.
Once sited in an appropriate spot within their extensive gardens, the unit set about its work with a vengeance catching plenty of the wee menaces. Pleased with the performance of their first Midgeater, the Raeburns felt that a second machine would allow a larger area of their garden to be protected. With that, they purchased a new Midgeater Plus as soon as the season started.
The combined effect of the two machines carefully sited gave the Raeburns the relief they craved allowing them to enjoy their garden without being eaten alive by the midge.
So pleased, were they that they kept the bulging bags of defeated Midges and ‘donated' them to their local retailer McDonalds hardware, Dingwall where store owner Mr Kelvin Ambrose was able to show customers proof of the effectiveness of the Midgeater and the difference one or two machines can make.

Inveroran Hotel, Bridge of Orchy situated on the route of the world famous West Highland Way, had arguably, the worst Midge problem we have ever encountered. When the Midges were out in force, the immediate vicinity of the hotel was virtually a no-go zone and if this wasn't bad enough, they infiltrated the interior of the hotel itself.
Nets were installed over windows and shower vents, anywhere Midges could get in; customers were asked not to leave windows open or lights on as the next day, light shades, fittings and window sills were covered in midges.
In June 2003, the Marshall's took ownership of their first Midgeater machine, which within weeks of being operational, caught well in excess of a supermarket carrier bag, full of the biting insects. The success of this machine coupled with unusually high concentration of Midges around the grounds of the Inveroran Hotel prompted the Texol Midgeater team to approach the Marshall's with the proposal of using their the Inveroran Hotel as a test site to help us analyse the machines and the insects in an ideal environment. This would help us advise customers to the best use and sitting of the machine as well as further improving the performance.
The Marshall's as you would expect, welcomed the suggestion and with that the Midgeater team descended upon the Inveroran Hotel with a number of additional machines located at strategic locations in and around the grounds of the hotel at the beginning of the 2004 season. The results were fantastic with the Midge population being severely devastated resulting in Midges entering the hotel being virtually eliminated and but probably the best news of all for Mr & Mrs Marshall and the guests of the Inveroran Hotel was being able to invite hotel patrons to site outside on the hotel patio to eat al fresco – something unthinkable during the Marshall's ownership of the Inveroran Hotel. |

10 November 2004.
David Legg from Inshlaggan, Glengarry, has a vested interest in the Midgeater machine, being the most successful weapon against the scourge of the highland midge. His home and also the self catering cottages he owns (www.hamstercottages.co.uk/2005/), are situated right in the middle of heavily infested midge territory.
He was particularly concerned over the misery that midge can cause to his paying guests and the introduction of an effective solution to help eliminate the biting menaces was just the thing David needed. He is one the first owners of the Midgeater machine in Scotland during 2003 and has shown a very keen interest in the machine. He was in constant contact with the Midgeater team volunteering great information on the state of the midge population in his locale and the effects of moving the Midgeater into different locations and in varying weather conditions for which the team are very grateful.
He also reasons that, as well as the machine catching midges whilst it is operating, it will also have significant effect on the local midge population. If the machine is used constantly, it is predominately the female biting midge that will be attracted and thus caught therefore reducing the population of breeding midges and subsequently restricting the size of new generations and so on – and this does have a positive and noticeable effect on the number of biting Midges in the surrounding area and not just around the Midgeater machine!
At the start of the 2004 season, David purchased another Midgeater, and during that season, the machine performed tremendously well. David believes the machines have had a very positive effect on the Midge problem, not only for himself but also the holidaymakers who enjoy hospitality at his cottages.
We wish David all the success for 2005 and beyond, and continued success in the use of his Midgeater products.
